Are your products reimbursable by insurance?

You may be eligible for insurance reimbursement for your purchase of post-operative garments and/or pocketed mastectomy bras with accompanying breast prostheses. Most medical insurance policies base their coverage on the Center for Medicare Standards (CMS). Although these products are covered for post-operative breast care patients, the product coverage and allowed amount is dependent on the region as defined by Medicare.

The following PDAC codes (code used to determine reimbursability) have been issued for Masthead garments by CMS:

Estelle Bra with Pockets Style #021p: L8000

Judy Long-Line Surgical Vest Style #045: L8015

Elizabeth Pink Surgical Bra with Pockets Style #042p: L8000

Please note that Masthead does not submit insurance reimbursement for purchases. Please contact your insurance company directly to provide the receipt and/or other documentation of your purchase in order to process reimbursement.

What size bra should I order?

To determine your size for Masthead bras, take the measurement around the body at the fullest part of the bust. For in-between sizes and large breasted customers, order the next size larger. If you are ordering prior to surgery, make sure to take the type of procedure you are having into consideration. You may want to consult with your doctor regarding sizing immediately post-surgery.

How do I know if my doctor will approve of my wearing a bra immediately post-surgery?

The best way to know if your doctor will approve of a post-surgical bra is to ask directly. Many hospitals and medical offices provide Masthead garments, and you may wake up from surgery wearing one of our bras!

I do not have JP drains. Does that mean the Elizabeth Pink Surgical® Bra won’t work for me?

The Elizabeth Pink Surgical Bra® can be used as a versatile comfort bra if you do not have JP drains. Ribbons can be cut off with scissors if you do not have drains, or once drains are removed.

How do I care for my JP drains?

Proper care of your drains is essential. You must regularly empty the bulbs so that they drain the fluid accumulating at the surgical site.

How should I wash my bra?

Masthead bras are machine washable. We recommend using a gentle or hand wash cycle and laying the item flat to dry. Use a garment bag and make sure that all Velcro is completely fastened to ensure there is no damage to the fabric.
