Our Story

Masthead® was started with one primary purpose: to provide women with comfort, support, and dignity as they prepare for, undergo, and recover from surgery and other treatments.

After working for many years as a physician, and after undergoing surgery herself, Johns Hopkins- and Harvard-trained Radiation Oncologist Dr. Elizabeth Chabner Thompson made a discovery: While the surgeries and treatments for cancer and other conditions had rapidly evolved and, in some cases, been revolutionized, the recovery products available to women were still stuck in the distant past.

Realizing that patients who feel cared for, dignified and empowered tend to recover faster and more completely. In 2011 she decided to change the status quo and improve the patient experience by designing a revolutionary new bra made of a soft, lightweight performance fabric that provides just enough compression and stays dry and fresh.

The patent-pending garment has an ingenious drain management system with side openings, ribbons and loops. She found a factory to produce the garments, and a business was born.

Our company has grown to an exceptional team working in a big, bustling, modern office space and warehouse space near New York City where we develop new products, help customers, and ship out orders.

What we value most at Masthead® is receiving emails, letters and phone calls from women whose treatment journey we helped improve.

Today, our state-of-the-art Elizabeth Pink Surgical Bra® is used in hundreds of the top hospitals in the country by the finest doctors and surgical staff.  Join the many women, loved ones and health care providers who found support, comfort and dignity for themselves and their patients at Masthead®

  • "I am still wearing mine. Had mastectomy and cut the loops off after the drains came out. I am 2 weeks post exchange surgery and still wear this quite a bit. Especially at night. They are the softest bras out there and have been a great purchase."
  • "My hospital gave 2 to me. It was what I was wearing when I came out of surgery. Very helpful and user friendly."
  • "I woke up in this pretty pink bra, the Elizabeth Pink Surgical Bra from my exchange surgery. Oh how I wish I had known about it during my Mastectomy. It would have been fantastic to hold the drains, which were such a pain. Anyone going through this journey, rather the Mastectomy or the exchange, I recommend this bra. It is so comfortable! The other compression bras I was given cut into my underarms and actually hurt. Thank you for your awesome invention!"
  • "I received this bra from my hospital. I LOVED it. It was so comfortable. The material is very soft and feels nice on your skin. I loved that it had drain holders and I never had to worry about what I was going to do with them. I was in this bra for about 8 weeks total 24 hours a day. I would recommend this bra to anyone that is going to have breast surgery. Thanks!"
  • "My surgeon put it on me in the hospital and then I begged her for another to take home. When I realized I could order it online, I bought another. Even after my drains came out, I used this MAGIC bra. I cut off the rings and it’s been on me ever since. I rotate the 3 bras through the week and my surgeon said I have recovered faster than any patient she’s seen. Just wanted you all to know how much I appreciate your Pink bra."

  • "The pillows and care bags I purchased have been a life saver through my three surgeries. It was awesome to know I had my hospital bag ready and medical supplies on hand to care for my drains and incisions after I got home from my mastectomy. Thank you for what you and your company provide. I’m forever indebted to you all."
  • "My wife recently underwent a double mastectomy and received this bag from a friend of hers who had also undergone this procedure. It was the perfect gift. The contents are well put together and beautifully presented. My wife was very moved by the thoughtfulness of the gift."
  • "I had breast cancer and mastectomy 16 years ago and I wish that this bag was available then. It’s such a comfort to have all that you need when you go into the hospital. I gave this bag to my friend, Anne. When I visited her after her surgery, she had the pillow under her arm and she loved the Burts Bees lip balm. She even sent me a thank you note on a beautiful note card from the bag."
  • "A great bag full of fun and helpful items. Going through breast cancer is tough – this colorful bag and its contents still make me smile."
  • "I ordered your pink surgical bra. It is amazing. The surgical bra from the hospital was poking me all over and when I moved the Velcro seemed to lift. Next morning changed to your surgical bra. Wow! It is comfortable and soft. I have not wanted to wear another style bra. I am back to my surgeon on Friday and will show him this product! I will be attending a wedding this weekend and know that this bra will get me through the event in my black dress. Thank you for making a quality product."
  • "My sister-in-law just found out she must have a double mastectomy next month so I sent this gift. When it arrived, it was so well put together with so many useful and appreciated items. Carefully picked and packed with so much thoughtfulness of a woman’s needs after this type of surgery. My brother and sister-in-law were so very thankful for this gift they couldn’t say enough. Thank you for this amazing package."
  • "I purchased this product as a gift and it arrived right on time the recipient LOVED it. She especially found the underarm pillow and drain supplies helpful. She had read about what things to buy and thought she wouldn’t really need some things but this package was extremely useful and she loved it. Thank you for making products like this, for friends/family that want to do SOMETHING for a loved one going through a double mastectomy and aren’t sure what to get!"
  • "I receive my bag as a gift from the hospital, 2 years ago. I loved that red pillow so much, I bought 2 more, 1 for each of my sisters. We are all still using them, I sleep with mine every night. I have recommended it to everyone I know. Thank you for making such a great, supportive product. everyone should have one."
  • My breasts were so heavy and sore. Now I feel supported.
  • My nipples were peeling and so sensitive. The lining on the bra was perfect and the cotton does not rub. It even washed well and got softer. Thank you.
  • I wear my bra even though I finished radiation months ago. I love it.
  • "Yesterday I interviewed a 55 year old breast cancer survivor. She was a patient of Dr. Ashikari (Dobbs Ferry Hospital). She told us about her experience from beginning to end and it was absolutely incredible seeing her strength. We asked her what had helped her most along her journey and she spoke of the nurses, support from her family and community and then she said ‘and the [Masthead] Bag I got as I was leaving the hospital. It was the most beautiful duffel bag with so many things that helped me at home after my surgeries. Was just such a nice way for me to have a bit of help once the nurses were no longer with me."

  • "I ordered one of your bags for my friends struggling with cancer and she thought it was “brilliant”, which is a big deal since she is a senior brand designer and is all about the look/design."
  • "I woke up after my prophylactic bilateral mastectomy wearing one of your pretty pink bras! I loved it so much that I ordered another from your site so while one was washing I wouldn’t go without wearing one. It was perfect support for my drain tubes and I loved the velcro on the straps which made putting on and off the bra very easy! I guess I was one of the lucky patients because my doctor said they were samples given to the hospital at that time. I have 2 more family members going in soon for prophylactic mastectomies and I’ve recommended them to purchase this bra! Thank you for making my recovery much easier!!"
  • The bra is so comfortable, I even sleep in it.
